Info & Insights
It is common to find vegetables and fruits wrapped in a clear bright plastic which is a bit stiff and a bit noisy when you crinkle it. You will also see this material used in bakeries. It is a popular packaging because it is food safe and makes it easy to see what is inside.
It is also used to wrap non-food items like sets of tissue paper boxes.
This material is usually CPP (cast polypropylene) or OPP (oriented polypropylene) - types of polypropylene plastic (PP #5).
This material is technically recyclable but tends to have low recycling rates in practice. Meaning don't spend a lot of time or energy trying to clean it for recycling. It is extremely low value and is rejected by karung guni and cash for trash.
