Some people add floral foam to soil to improve water retention. However this contributes to microplastic in soil which may be harmful to some plants because it may interfere with their vascular system and ability to absorb nutrients.
If you choose to do this, only do it in pots where there is no risk of water runoff or leaching to the surrounding area. In other words: keep that microplastic contained.
