What about the bottle? Most vitamins come in an HDPE (#2) white plastic bottle or clear PET bottle (#1) which are both recyclable but in practice are unlikely to be recycled because of their small size.
Do vitamins expire? All vitamins have a best before date… which is a guideline. Over time, some vitamins may become less potent (particularly pre-biotics which have a very short shelf life). Meaning they will be less effective. Minerals will generally be more hardy than antioxidants due to their stable chemical composition.
Are expired vitamins safe to take? In most cases, old vitamins are probably at worst a placebo (meaning no potency). But IT DEPENDS. If there is visible signs of deterioration, don't take it. Read more here.
