Trash
Many yoghurt containers are #6 plastic which cannot be recycled.
Even when these containers are made of #5 recyclable plastic, it is difficult to identify which is which at sorting plants. Therefore regardless of what material it is made of, it is unlikely to get recycled.
Alternative
Recycling Bins & Chutes
Often these tubs are made of #5 plastic (Polypropelene aka “PP”) which is recyclable. This kind of plastic is allowed in blue bins. But as mentioned above, due to technicalities of sorting, it is very unlikely this will get recycled.
Did we mention it should be clean?
We are pretty “meh” on putting plastics in the blue bin that require a lot of washing. Yes it is allowed. But given the low recycling rates, it doesn't seem worth the soap and water.
But again: if you choose to recycle, clean it!
