Specialised Recycling
Paper in blue bins tends to have a higher risk of getting contaminated with food waste therefore our first choice for paper recycling are recyclers who segregate the paper from the start (ie it is not “co-mingled” with other materials).

Recycling Bins & Chutes
Clean paper products can be put in any recycling bin though you may want to put it in a plastic bag to protect it from contamination and rain. Don't worry about using a plastic bag for this. It is removed easily at the sorting plant.

Info & Insights
The advice above generally applies to all paper products. However please note the following:
Staples and windows
When recycling paper products (including cardboard), it's OK to leave on tape, staples, and plastic windows, but remove any spiral binding (ie wires) or plastic handles (say on paper bags).
Scraps
If the paper is small (<6cm x 6cm) it is best to put it in a larger paper container (eg envelope) if you want to ensure it doesn't get filtered out of the recycling process. This includes things like clean dry paper straws and business cards.
Condition
Paper that is discoloured or dusty if fine to be recycled. However it if is wet or oily, throw it in the trash.
Avoid These
Do not include any paper that is:
- Tissue or paper towel
- Greasy or with food waste
- Covered in wax crayon or oil pastel
- Has plastic lamination or wax coating
- Has gold stamping, foil, glitter, or other metals embedded
- Tracing Paper
